What is the best toothbrush to use.

I am due to get a new tooth brush up till now I would just get any plan cheap toothbrush, normally at the 99 cent stores.   My dentist is getting on me about my dental habits and I am willing to spend more on a toothbrush if there is really any difference.   The issue is that there are so many different toothbrushes out that it is hard to know what is the best one to use. They all say they are the best.  I just wondering what is the best toothbrush that people like to really use the most?  Which is better electric or regular?  Oral-B seems good but is it the best one to use?  looking for opinions.
