Orthodontic Insurance, Looking to save money on Braces.

I noted that there are affordable dental discount plans, that seem to offer saving on orthodontic dental care for both children and adult a like.  This is something I would like to have since both my son and I have need for braces.  However how do I know I am really saving the 20 percent they seem to show if I am not sure what the cost for braces would normally be.
